Travel Tips:
•From Chicama:
You can take the bus running from Chicama to Truiljo (every 10 minutes) and then from Truiljo take the El Dorado straight to Talara (leaves late at night and gets in around 6 am and is 25 soles).
•From Lima:
1)Bus:There are several overnight bus services operating the Lima-Talara route: Cruz del Sur, CIVA, etc. You will usually arrive first thing the next morning and aim to be in Lobitos within an hour of arriving in Talara.
2)Plane:There are two options here: you can get one of a few daily flights from Lima to Piura (1hour 45 minutes) with LAN and then take a direct EPPO bus to Talara, or; Take a direct Lima to Talara Flight (around 2 hours) with STARPERU (check website for dates).
•From Mancora:
1)Taxi:Getting hold of taxi from here is not going to be problem and will usually cost about 150 soles for the round trip to Lobitos.
2)Bus:Find the EPPO bus station on the north side of town along the Pan American and here buses usually run every 30 minutes to Talara, take just under 2 hours and costs 5.5 soles per person and boards for free.
•From Pacasmayo:
There are two options here, first you can take the El Dorado bus for about 20 soles direct to Talara (leaves late a night and arrives about 6 hours later) or you can take a Linea bus from Pacasmayo-Chiclayo-Piura and then take the EPPO bus to Talara (this is a whole days travel).
•Once you get to Talara:
There are three modes of transportation to get directly to Lobitos in under an hour (unless you have your own car).
1) Taxi: You can get proper taxis to take you to Lobitos, this is the fastest way to get here, found usually lingering around the centre of Talara and shouldnft cost more than 40 soles (add another 10 if you are coming from the Airport).
2)Moto-taxi: If you get into any bus station anywhere in Peru, there will be a stack of these guys hanging around for business. Just flag one down when you get off the bus in Talara and he should be able to take you (max 3.) for around 20 soles, but may hassle you for an extra 5 soles if there are too many people.
3) Combi service: This is the cheapest way to get to and from Lobitos and only costs 2 soles to for the ride (1 sole extra may be charged for surfboards). Get a moto-taxi to drop you off a the Lobitos bus station for 1.5-2 Soles and then you will have to wait until the bus is filled with 12 people before going.
